The important thing to remember with SEER numbers is that the higher the number on the rating the more efficient the unit and the less it will cost to provide cooling and heating. For machines that were built before January 2006, the minimum allowable SEER rating for a new central AC unit was 10. For machines built after this date the minimum allowable rating is 13. Most Carrier air conditioners come with a 10-year standard parts limited warranty if they are registered within 90 days of purchase.
